Hopefully when i get used to gimp ill post some more tuts. ill make one after tea cos its pretty coolio
EDIT: its after tea now and i believe im going to be the first person to make a GIMP tutorial . Gimp is a good program if you have no money and no good image editing package. Its interferance is slightly difficult to get used to with about 3 different windows: Image icons, layers etc and the actual image. It gets annoying as when you select one of the windows the other two are inactive. However you can access the image editing icons from menus. Gimp can have plug-ins to help it work the best one of these is the animation one which i advise getting. Aswell as plug-ins GIMP comes with scripts ready to use (Script-Fu) this is good for making words, backgrounds and many other wbesite stuff (headings etc). In this tutorial i will show you how to make a old 'warning' side which looks like this:
I think this looks pretty cool and its very easy to make
Firstly make a new image 300x90px
Choose the normal filler tool and select the pattern starfield (ignore the warning pattern for now):
next fill the background with the pattern and duplicate the layer. Change the Mode of the 'copy of background' to Addition.
your sig should look something like this:
next choose the normal fill tool again and select the pattern Warning! (as in the picture showing the fill tools)
create a new layer and fill this layer with that pattern. Change the layers mode to Colour and there you go an industrial looking sig background.
post here for questions and comments.
