I am lost, but no matter... I just have a question... I can use paintings right? Hmmm. good point. i suppose in a way it's kind of the same thing because a picture of a painting is a photgraph, isn't it? So paintings are not allowed (i guess, unless someone disagrees with me on this point). sigh why can't things be simple...

I'd say it depends on the type of painting, and how it's used.
If it's one that's like a photo, and/or just being used as a background, then I'd say no.
But, if it's a classic style painting (like the Mona Lisa or something), and you're using various effect on it to enhance/change its look, then I'd say go for it.

Okay.... I'm inclined to agree with LHW but I understand your point.
Pixel art, like Shan's penguin is ok though, correct? I have some brushes that I downloaded a long time ago that are of some of Waterhouse's paintings... could I use those?

Okay.... I'm inclined to agree with LHW but I understand your point. for me it's like the same thing. take this sig for example. I took an image from a painting and edited it and arranged it just like i would of done with a photograph, so to me it's the same thing. yeah pixel art is ok. and so are the brushes
