First, I will tell you how to do a non-animated smilie and then an animated one.
1. Copy a smilie from a forum into PSP8.
2. Add a second Raster Layer and change the blend mode to colour:
3. Fill the smilie with the colour dump tool. You should end up with something like this:
4. Go to File - Export - GIF Optimizer. Check off "Areas that Match this colour" and pick white as the colour. Then click ok and save.
That is basically it for a non-animated one. To make an animated one is a bit more complicated.
1. Save an animated smilie of your choice onto your computer. I am going to be doing the one.
2. Open it in your Animation Shop program. It will open it into a bunch of different frames.
3. Copy the first frame and open it in your PSP8.
4. Follow steps 2 and 3 in the non-animated one.
5. Merge the layers visible
6. Select your magic wand tool at these settings:
7. Pick the left top corner with the magic wand:
8. With your background eraser, make a small erase in the selected area:
9. Click the delete Key.
10. Go to the next 3 corners and do the same, except you won't have to do the background eraser, because the program will remember that you want to erase.
11. I was having a bit of difficulty with this in my program today. Usually it erases everything, but today it left some colour behind. If that happens, take your background eraser and erase the rest of the colour.
12. Do this with all of the frames from the animation.
13. Copy and paste each frame into your Animation Shop program. In the same order and everything as the saved one from the original smilie.
14. Right click on the orignal smilie and click on "Frame Properties"
15. It will tell you the amount of time to set your animation at.
This time it is 12. Right click on your new animation and click on "Frame Properties" and put 12 in that one.
16. Continue on with each frame
17. Click on View - Animation on your new smilie. It will show you what your animation will look like once you save it.
18. Then go and save the "viewed" smilie!
And that is it! You should have a smilie that looks something like this:
Hope you have fun with it!!
