zoom in on your canvas to 8oo%
create an ellipse with the ellipse tool
and erase about three quarters
until you are left with the curve on the top left.
Then fill the curve with a gradient. You can learn how to make a gradient using Paint here
colour the border to blend with the grad. i'm using a dark purple.
and add a highlight
at this stage you need to add the background colour. Paint doesn't use hex colour codes, so take a screenshot of your forum background, and paste it into paint. then select the 'pick colour' tool and click on the bg to get the colour value.
add some drop shadow. do this by going to colours > edit colours > define custom colours, and select a darker shade of the same colour. I'm adding two lines of shadow.
now we want to make the curve look smooother. Click on the border colour with the 'pick colour' tool, and select a slighty light shade in 'Define custom colours'.
then 'cap' all the joins in the curve, as in the picture below.
Then click on the highlight colour and pick and choose a slightly darker shade, and fill in the joins where the border and the highlight meet.
do the same for the dropshadow on the outside of the border too. This is known as anti-aliasing.
It helps to give the curve a smoother edge. it can be a bit tricky to pull off and might take a bit of practice. Mine doesn't look soooper great, but that's ok ;D
This is what i have so far
now we want to create the rest of the image
select the 'select tool' and make a selection as in the picture below, and then copy a past the selection.
then move the copy into position like so
make another selection...
and paste.
repeat until you have at least half of your head image complete.
Then select the whole of the image..
and paste and go to 'image > Flip and rotate > Flip horizontal, and move the selection into position.
and that's the head image almost complete. all you need to do now is crop it, and save it.
to make the base image go to 'image > Flip and rotate > Flip vertical, and save.
and that's it
