I got a new aide today. Her name is Brittany and she is 18. In the middle of doing some stuff she looked over at me and very solemnly asked me what I would do if someone came up to me and said "Hello, I am Jesus" I couldn't help myself. . . I started laughing so hard. When I was able to speak again, I told her that I thought that if Jesus walked up to me I would know Him without need for a formal introduction. We went on to discuss how John the Baptist leaped in joy inside Elizabeth's womb when Mary went to visit after she became pregnant. She didn't know that story
Brittany says that she never reads the Bible because the language is too archaic (my word not hers) So what I want to know is did get of you get other versions of the Bible for yourself or your kids to read besides KJV and if so what version did you get? I gave her a children's illustrated Bible to read about John the Baptist and told her that I would ask around for a more understandable version for her. She seemed quite pleased.

I use an NIV Study Bible by Zondervan. Before that I used an NAS Study Bible by Ryrie. The NAS is probably easier for someone that's new to reading the Bible.

Hmm... well, the bible version that helps me the most is... well, I don't know its name. It starts with an "A" but I'm not sure. I think its adapted but I don't think so anymore... Adaption, maybe, but once again, not sure. But those who know what I'm talking about will know what I'm talking about and can post it here. So thanks! ^_^

A good Bible that is really easy to understand is "The Message". I believe it is more of a paraphrase, but it is in everyday English and it is really easy to understand. Another good Bible is "The New Living Translation". Both are more modern kind of English and I bet Brittany would understand them well.

Mikey would that be the Amplified Bible? I showed her mine and she said that it confused her with all those words in brackets. I also showed her NIV and NAS but she said that they were too hard as well.
Shanny is "The New Living Translation" like the Living Bible? To our shame, we no longer have a Bible book store here any more. I find lots of unused Bibles at Goodwill and Salvation Army though. Seldom do I see a well worn one though. . . . .

"The New Living Translation" is different from the Living Bible. It is an actual translation while the Living Bible is a paraphrase. "The New Living Translation" came out just a few years ago. So, you may have a hard time finding it in a second hand store. But, the Living Bible may be good, too. Or the Good News Bible.

Thanks Shanny. I can always ask Deborah to send a copy. The ONE place she doesn't mind going to is the Bible bookstore.

My two favourite Bibles, are a little pocket sized NIV, and a paperback Good News New Testament. I borrowed a Living bible once, and i really liked it. i think the guy that wrote it originally did so for his kids or something.
