I'm really embarrassed about this because it seems so simple, but I can't figure it out. Everything I try looks horrible! 5seconds.proboards74.com/I am working on this skin for my brother's forum and there's too much red and too much black, but I don't know what other colors to add in. I had a lighter red gradient in the title bar, but it clashed badly with the buttons. Maybe I just need to redo the buttons? I think I need to redo the whole thing! Half of the reds look orange.  Any suggestions? |

Well, you still have maintainence mode up so I can't view the board, but what I see of it, it looks GREAT! I love the banner! Great job on it!

I like the background and banner. I think they look great! The thing I would try and improve on at first glance is the text colour. It blends really well into the background and some people would have a hard time reading it. I would try a lighter colour. I really like your online computer icon. I think that looks really cool!  |

The banner is beautiful. The old posts icon is beautiful as well. The new posts icon seems a bit off though and Shan is right about the text. The white is a bit too bright and the red blends too well with the darkness. I think that you might try a cream or lt grey for a text color. Also I would change the female icon because as it is, it looks redundent. It is a very good looking template though. And I don't generally think so of the dark ones because they hurt my eyes.

Thanks you two. I'll try your suggestions out today. Bethany, I really don't mind brutal honesty/constructive criticism. The only thing that bothers me is when people are rude or unkind while being brutally honest! lol That's why I always welcome your comments, I know you will be honest without being mean. Thanks. |

Ellie I have been thinking. (Sometimes that is a dangerous sign!) Mahud made a post on here once where he talked about using a paint template to figure out colors. So what if you were to make a screenshot of your board and play with font colors and stuff on it. When you are inside a control panel it is often difficult to impossible to see what changes you are really making. (One reason I love exco is that you get a good preview of most things) I think that it might be easier to pick colors if you just typed across a screen shot to see what colors work best. I just did that for a project of my own and I bet that it saved me hours this morning.

Oh Bethany, I love you!!! LOL You just made things 1000% easier for me! Now working on the text color will be much less trouble. Now, why do I never think of solutions like that?? (Especially since I actually used M@hu_D's tutorial for choosing colors for your skin.) I must not be getting enough sleep... brain isn't working... lol |

Oh... well, I got so irritated with it that I decided to step away for a while before I completely lost my mind and deleted it. I tried making the text different colors, but it always looked odd. So I just lightened up the red and it ended up pink (of course, lol). So for now it's just sitting there -- hopefully being ashamed of itself for not cooperating. Michael, did you notice that Bethany thinks I'm an alien and a stranger to this world? I didn't think I was that odd, but maybe... ;D eta: Writing about the red ending up pink reminded me of Donut from Red vs Blue: "It's not pink, it's LIGHT RED!" lol
