Ok i might be getting a graphics program for christmas. I am unsure which one to get really. Ive got PSP 9 illeagaly on my computer. So for christmas i would like a leagal one. However there are a few alternatives. I need helping picking which one to get. I can choose between: - PSP 9
- PSP 10
- Photoshop Elements
Ok everyine would say why have 9 if you can have 10? but i dont think 10 includes animation shop which i wouldn't mind having and 9 includes it. I am also familiar with 9 and not wiht 10 however at this very moment i am downlaoading a trial for it. Another option is Elements. I have a trial version of it and im not to keen on it but some people (eg magazine reviews) say that Elements is better than PSP 9. So i am very confused can any one help on this matter?? and if i dont get any i will have to delete PSP 9 ( illeagal) and live with paint (which isnt so bad but....) So please could someone help.

My personal choice (however biased), would be PS: Elements. Basically, just for two main reasons.
1) It's a LOT like the full version of Photoshop. Yes, some things are missing, yet the basic interface is practically identical. So, should you ever upgrade to PS:CS2, you won't have a large learning curve.
2) Photoshop is still considered the "industry standard." While PSP has made some headway, most corporate offices tend to stick with PS. Why? Due to Acrobat, most companies have a service agreement with Adobe already in place, so it'd be easy to add one more piece of software. PSP, on the other hand, has recently changed owners, and Corel is not the company it once was (look what happened to Word Perfect). So, if you ever plan on turning your hobby into a full-time career, PS:E would be the place to start.

I did download a trial version of PS: Elements and I honestly wasn't impressed with it. It has some similarities to PS: CS2, but it has way more limitations to that of PSP. There are a lot of preset things that make it difficult to be creative. I think that Elements is not as good as PSP and PS:CS2. If you can't afford PS: CS2, then in my opinion, PSP is the way to go. My plans for myself is to use PSP now and then raise money to buy PS: CS2. If I had bought Elements, I would have just been frusturated at the program. They say it is like Ps: CS2, but really, I think it is a lot different, just by my experience. And I think that PSP9 is better than PSP10. Just like what LHW said that PSP10 is now bought by Corel and I am not impressed with the changes to the program. I think PSP9 has better elements to it.

mmmm.... thanks. PSP 9 would be better and it would be more likly for my parents to get it as its cheaper and in my opinion i prefer the whole way PSP 9 wors for me unlike PS E which feels limited some how. does anyone know if PSP 9 comes with animation shop? I know PS E has a built in kinda ani feature but PSP 10 doesn't seem to have Ani shop. so any ideas?? also my PSP 10 trial isnt working so i still have no idea wat its like. However as i know wat PSP 9 is like and i prefer it over PS E i mite go for PSP 9.

To be honest, I haven't looked at Elements since back in the day when I was using PS:7. Maybe because I was already fluent in PS:7 I didn't notice any big hang-ups. I certainly am not able to compare it to PSP, eventhough I have copies of both 6 and 8: I simply don't use them beyond the right-click browsing feature. LOL
EDIT: Since both 6 and 8 have Animation Shop, I'd assume that 9 does as well.

Ya know, if you want to be legal now, you can always try GIMP. As I understand it, it's a scaled down version of PSP...and, it's free. You can find it HERE. Be sure to download GTK first. And, if you need them: GIMP Tutorials.

Yeah, I do the same. I own no REAL graphics program of my own. All of mine are trials... but hey, I found a site that allows you to download a 60 day trial version. If you would like, I can find it for you.
EDIT: A trial version of PSP9.

Michael, you should try the GIMP. It's a full program and it's freeware (and Lostsoul is already using it, too)! I keep meaning to sit down and do some of the tutorials at www.gimptalk.com, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Looks like you can do some really great stuff on it.

I have heard people say that GIMP is really better than most of the high priced programs because being open source there are always thousands of people working on making it better and more user friendly. Most of the plug ins and filters and other stuff originally meant for PSP and photoshop are supposed to work in GIMP as well. I like the idea of people all over the world working towards a common good.
