A lot of times, I use scanlines as a way to add texture and blend images together even more. Like in this siggy from the duel with Gwen: Here is how to do it.... Open a new file that is 3x3 pixels. Enlarge it over 800%. Turn on the grid. And then with your one pixel brush, go diagonal with one colour and then with another colour fill in the rest of the canvas. It should look something like this: And then, in your foreground colour, pick pattern and put that as your pattern. And dump it on a new layer on top of everything and change the opacity to like 18% to 30% depending on how prominent you want the lines. (of course, you don't have to use that yellow and blue lol I used bright colours so they would stand out from one another. hehe) That's about it! An easy yet effect way to add something special to your graphics. ~ Shan P.S. And if you want to jazz things up a bit, you can do different patterns than just the diagonal line. You can add more a grid or other patterns, too. Look at this tutorial Mahud did a while ago. And you can use similar patterns for this, too! background patterns tut

I think in Photoshop, under patterns, you can set the scanlines as a custom pattern.

how do you do that M@? I know how to load custom patterns but are the scanlines a default on PS or can you download them from somewhere?

I'm so glad I came across this! I have been experimenting with creating my own skins and the backgrounds look SO much more interesting with scanlines. Great tut, Shan!
