I had to write this poem about the life of a Holocaust survivor, Alicia Jurman. It was good and I think I did well writing it so I thought I would share... So here it is:
What did cause her sorrow? And what evoked her fear? To force her to run, And to shed her tear. Who is the culprit? What brought these things to be? Her blood is the perpetrator, Her blood, yea, unfortunate it be. Young, blameless and innocent, At nine years of age, What monster would hurt her? Hitler and his rage. Against the Jews he was, The unclean and impure. Many agreed and followed him, His was right, they were sure. An all out extermination, Against the Jews and the outcast. To live in those times, You had to be fast. First, was her eldest brother, Imprisoned for good reasons, they lie. Being killed by Nazi bullets, Her father was the next to die. Shortly after, went the second brother Who was murdered by a German bullet. Her little brother, lastly, Shot without thought and hastily. Mother, daughter, left alone Together side by side Hereafter they’ll fight together Together they will ride. In search for a safe haven, And a secure rest station They hid in an epileptic’s cabin, ‘Til their day of liberation. Although they were free, Nazis killed the Jews. Her mother, in this killing spree, The German haters slew.
At so young an age, Alicia, A grownup she became. To fend for herself, And to play death’s game.
