I'm writing something about signature banners for a new website. And i'm interested in what makes a signature good or bad. This is what I've come up with so far, and i'm interested what all your thoughts are concerning signature banners, and what it is you are trying to achieve when you create one?
Signature banners are about self expression through a combination of words and images, and are also a form of Online digital art. Many digital artists and graphic designers begin their careers by making signature banners and avatars for themselves and others.
They are vehicles used to communicate our beliefs, our emotions, and our passions and interests. They reveal our strengths and our weaknesses, and create impressions about who we are. Signatures are powerful social tools, and help us to connect with others. Signature banners also function as advertisments, and are used as gateways (if you like) to other places on the web.

*claps* ooh I think that description (or what there is so far) of signatures and avatars is very...good? I would like a better word then that lol. Its very descriptive and states very clearly in why we make these images. You are absoultely correct in the things you say about how they are: i think this is a brilliant start to it and i coudlnt of done any better my self...i probably couldnt of done this good either lol

Yeah, that's really well spoken, Mahud! When I create a signature, I don't try to find the interests in others and worry about how others will enjoy it, but it's more of a self image. (literally) I look for what I want on it, design it the way I want it, and enjoy it ^^ I don't really go asking for "What should my next siggy be?" Because it's up to your desicion. That's the beauty of making graphics, anyone can do it...because it's all about you. There are no limits as to what you can/can't do, and if you like your end result, that's what really matters. Others can give critique on your image, tips and secrets to help you improve both by skill and creativity. No one sig is "bad" or even "perfect". There is always room for improvement, whether you've been doing graphics for years or weeks.
