Want more members? or are you satisfied with what you have? What if I could get 10 members or more to join here per day?

Yikes! 10 a day is too many I think! Boards that grow too quickly are worse than boards with only 3 members. I have been thinking about making a post here about why I love this place. I have said a few things here and there today about the subject but just haven't had time to lay it all out in a post. Part of why I love it here is the lack of super egos. Everyone is at different stages and we all try to help each other. Mutual respect and affection can be found in almost every post made by active members. I belonged to some graphics boards in the past that were holy terrors. I will never stay at a place like that. I don't need the added stress. I am a super mod at a bb software support forum and I spend hours everyday researching answers to people questions and moderating the forum which can sometimes be very busy with bozos posting things that they know they shouldn't. I often don't get a chance to work on my own projects and learning how to use all my software is one of those projects. Plus I have boards of my own that I am considering shutting down because of several reasons with one being that I like the people here better. I would rather give my time to encouraging others here that hand holding some of the bozos at my own boards.
Also I have become Aunt Catchow to many of the teens and Dear Abby to some of the older ones so I get quite a few pm's there. I wouldn't want to come here if we got 70 new members a week or 300 a month. I love this place just the way it is. But that is just my opinion and I am not the owner of this board.
There is so little competion here that I am comfortable here. If you don't believe me about the lack of competition, just look at the SOTW threads. This is a sharing place and I like it like that.

It's been my experience that people that are "recruited" to join a board, generally do not respect the people that are already there, and helped make the place what it has become. More often than not, the "new recruits" will hand together, and end up dissing the already-established posters.
They also seem to think that "to be someone" at the board, they need a super-high post count. So, in order to do that, they'll practically spam the place. Then, once they've reached their goal, they hold it over everyone else like some medal of honor...which it is not.
If you have some people that are genuinely interested in a Christian Graphics Board, then go ahead and pass on the link. My advise to them would be to lurk for awhile, so they get to know the place better, and get an idea of the kind of people that are here. If, after that, they feel like joining, then they're more than welcome.
However, to simply send out an open invitation to a group of people, would, in my opinion, cause the board to loose the integrity it has tried so hard to maintain.
I applaud the enthusiasm, but I don't think the end result would be worth the effort. My opinion, anyway.

I'm familiar with 'em. By necessity, I'm a member of 7 groups, and I can't stand most of them...too many "chit chat" e-mails, when the groups are supposed to be for designated purposes. Boy, those folks are lucky I'm not a mod of those groups. LOL
Maybe I'm getting crotchety in my old age, but I much prefer message boards...I like their structure over Yahoo!'s sequentialness.

As a co-owner of the board, I personally wouldn't want it to be huge. It would be way too stressful on Matt and myself. And I rather have a close knit group of people than a huge forum where people are spamming and argueing with one another. Honestly, if ocgfx got really huge, I don't think I would want to come here anymore and that's pretty bad, since I'm the admin. hehe So yeah. I just want our board to be the family that it is now. And leave it in God's hands to let it grow the way he would want it to grow and he will give us the strength to admin/mod the board if it does get bigger.

I'm all for slow growth, and I'm happy with the way things have progressed at this board over the past year. Shan and i have prayed recently that God would be the true admin of this board. We want to give it to him, and hopefully over time good stuff will happen And good stuff is happening now, i believe. for a community to work it's important that people know each other, and people don't feel excluded, or uncomfortable, which i think would happen when large groups get together. Also, we are for the most part graphic newbies, myself included, and i like the fact, as Bethany said, that we can post stuff without feeling threatened or heavily critisized. That does put me off graphic design boards. We are inexperienced non-professionals , who create graphics for fun. I really want things to stay that way. Did you guys get members without advertising? A lot of people find this board through search engines, due largely to the templates, but also other content as well. We advertised to some extent too, with topsites, directories, and affiliating, but it's search engine's that gives this site the most hits.

*breathes a deep breath* Thank you Matt and Shanny! I love this place and don't want to see it get all messed up. Shanny said that we are a family of misfits and I like it that way.

Yeah, and let's have an example here. Zanmato Designs, I believe, is very close to its demise. Yes, there are still good things going on that way but I've read a few threads and judging by it the members are being seperate between mods and admins as well as other members, who in the following members idea should be the real admin. It's sad because I used to go there a lot but now. . . things aren't looking so well. And it's because of the huge population of the forum. I agree with Shan, Bethany, LHW, and M@ on this one. . . I wouldn't want OVGFX to get huge and that be the only good thing about it. I like the way it is here now and I don't want it to change.

There is a minister who lives across the street from me who moved here from Mississippi. One day I called him a pointy headed red neck preacher man and he absolutely loved it. From then on, he would ask me to tell anyone who was close by just exactly what I called him. I got tired of repeating it all the time so for Christmas I made him a bumper sticker that said
"Shane is a pointy headed, red necked, preacher man. So says Bethany"
He got really excited when he opened it and announced to everyone that now he had to go buy a pickup truck. We all laughed. But within a week he was driving a pickup with the bumper sticker on it. Last year he hit a deer and totaled the truck. His wife said that he carried on about that stupid bumper sticker being lost. A few days ago he asked me to make him a new bumper sticker. This time I am going to design it and burn it to a cd so that he can get as many made as he needs. My friend who used to print those things for me moved her print shop to New Mexico and there isn't a good place nearby.
(I think he has decided that it is time to buy a new pickup)

lol i like this forum as it is. Here are mi opinions: I dont really like super big forums with 1000s of members (for instance gaia online) That is because there is too much to keep up with. Too many posts, too many people and if your new to the forum you haven't got a clue where to start as the threads are too long. Also on big forums (really big ones) the admin seem way ahead of everyone else and seem to look down on the new people alot. Unlike here where everyone helps each other and we can all have a good laugh i can honestly say this is my favorite board that i am a member on. I can keep up with the threads, who the members are, whats going on and alot more . Im not planning on finding another board as i dont see the point this board is too good. Yes i am a member on other boards and yes i do own my own boards. But i think you guys have kept this board nice and have held it together. So dont go and get loads of new members just to make the board look big (not that you thinking of anyway ) as M@ and Shanny said its nice to let it grow at its own rate Merry Christmas every one and a happy new year Lost Soul
